Egyptomania narratives or motifs
In this film by Richard Linklater, the director once again manages to convey to the viewer the mysteries of the human soul, with reflections on the passing of time, the decisions made, and the fear of failure.
The character of Bernadette, played by Cate Blanchett, lives in torment, and her eccentricity produces rejection and mistrust. Linklater's look at the character is, however, enormously affectionate, showing that Bernadette and her daughter are, in the end, people whom the rest of the world seems not to understand and know nothing about. To elucidate this situation, the voice-over of Bernadette's daughter talks about how scientists recently located a previously unknown chamber of the Great Pyramid of Giza by means of highly advanced technology. Despite the time that has passed since its construction, no one had noticed the existence of this space in the core of the pyramid. No one can explain the function of this chamber or even why it exists. In short, Bernadette is as unfathomable to others as this chamber in the pyramid.
In addition, this short sequence recalls the robot missions and other technological means that were used to locate the hidden chambers and passages of Khufu’s pyramid at Giza. These events were widely covered by the media in the first two decades of the 2000s.
